A friend of mine loves his Canon Powershot S2 IS. And I must say that he has taken many suitable photographs with it. I'm not sure if that has more to do with the instrument or the person behind it though, especially in this case. He loves the art of photography just as much as I do. We get into long discussions about it sometimes, which have been known to go on for hours over dinner or drinks. Thoroughly boring anyone else who happens to be there with us, I'm sure.

One day he had the nerve to pull out his Canon Powershot S2 IS and say, "I'll teach you about pictures." This was a bold taunt from him that I wasn't used to. We normally keep it civil. I prefer to look at things with as little stress as humanly possible, and keep personal attacks, even ones made teasingly, to a minimum. I've always thought that it's better to avoid the potential for silly arguments if you can. No pain, no gain though, I suppose. And no increase in knowledge. Through adversity comes growth, after all. And I did learn a thing or two about what the possibilities are with a Canon Powershot S2 IS that day.
We settled up, then left the restaurant that we were in. It was just the two of us on that particular occasion. Which was good for him. An insult like that thrown around in mixxed company could result in getting clonked over the head with your own Canon Powershot S2 IS!
But anyhow, what he did with that Canon Powershot S2 IS as we walked was nothing short of miraculous in my eyes. He gave me a real life, step-by-step, example to show me how it's done. I have never been flat-out put in my place by anyone like I was that day.
We had gone into the city for lunch. And as we were walking through it afterwards, he was able to capture the most amazing shots of the fast paced existence that you can only find there. He ran the gamut with it too. There was the average city skyline stuff that any first year photography student will take, but he also managed to get quite a few with unique angles on the towers there that I have yet to capture in my own endeavors.
There were also a few lucky clicks of random people. I call them lucky, anyway. He insists that it's skill. But we just happened to run into a few interesting faces along the way. One or two people didn't even mind posing for him to take their pictures.
My good buddy had to gloat after everything was all over with. He seemed to love to make triumphal announcements about what he could do that day. I hope it's not a side of him that pops up often. I find it to be distasteful. But I did have to admit that, after I swallowed some pride, watching the way that he set-up photos, and seeing how he worked with his Canon Powershot S2 IS did teach me some things about pictures.
