I got the opportunity to play around with a Canon Powershot A620 the other day, and I did have some fun with it. One of my photo buddies had just gotten one. I spent a long weekend at his place in the boonies and he let me take it out for a test drive. Which was a very welcome diversion. He lives way out there in the woods. Beyond suburbs, and smack dab in the middle of nowhere. I was wondering what there would be to do after the first day and a half. There's only so much catching up you can stand.

What do you get when you combine the deep forest, time to enjoy it, and a Canon Powershot A620? It just takes a little bit of thought, but oyu come away with some really choice nature photos. I did spend a lot of my long weekend talking about old times with my friend, of course. But there was one afternoon when we had lunch at the house, then he went into town to run some errands, and I opted to stay behind. I went out on a nature walk with a good pair of boots and that Canon Powershot A620 at the ready. It was really an experience.
I haven't spent much time in the woods at all. Never went camping or anything like that. So, everything there was brand new. I am really glad I brought the Canon Powershot A620 along to document it. I can't say when I'll ever be in that position again. Or if I'll be, even. But I'll always have those photos to remember it by.
I guess you might be wondering what pictures I got. Well, as I said, I started out in the early afternoon, when the sun is high in the sky. Great light, as many of you will know. I followed a little trail for a while, but then decided that you can't truly capture something unique if you stick to paths that are laid out for you. So, I went off it, into the woods. I would have never had the courage to do that without another piece of modern technology - the GPS. I have the sense of direction of someone who grew up in the suburbs. Either I see street signs or I get lost. It's horrible.
I managed to come across a waterfall in my travels. I got a fantastic shot of sunlight glinting through it.
There was another picture of deep shadows that the forest canopy made on the ground.
A wonderful close-up of a dragonfly. You can see the wings, transparent and fluttering.
I managed to snap a picture of a deer at only a few feet away. I am most proud of that one. How often does someone get that close to a wild animal?
My friend's Canon Powershot A620 did a fantastic job with all of these. I was really happy with the performance. I was happy with my own picture taking prowess as well, even if I do say so myself. I think I am improving as a photographer.
I don't feel like I can do justice to the photos that I took with the Canon Powershot A620 by just describing them like this. I really will have to find time to post them here one of these days.
